The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced the temporary closure of two shops, for violating the Ministry’s circulars regarding precautionary and preventive measures put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and for failing to meet general and special requirements.

The businesses closed are the following:

  • Oriental Spa in Umm Lekhba
  • Fast Fitness Gym Center in Labor City

The ministry stated in a tweet on its official account on Twitter that these stores did not comply with the ministry's circulars regarding precautionary measures and preventive measures to confront Coronavirus, and not adhering to the general and special requirements for shops.

The businesses will remain closed until the current situation is modified and fines are paid, the ministry added.

These measures come as part of the Ministry’s keen efforts to monitor and regulate markets and commercial activities across Qatar, and to monitor the degree of compliance with laws and regulations governing commercial activities, as well as following up on compliance with the Ministry’s circulars regarding precautionary and preventive measures.

The Ministry stressed that it would neither tolerate any negligence in terms of meeting obligations stipulated in Law No. (5) of 2015 on Commercial, Industrial and Similar Public Shops, and Street Vendors, nor would it allow violation of the circulars regarding precautionary and preventive measures to preserve public health.

The Ministry said it will intensify its inspection campaigns to control violating practices. Any party who violates laws and Ministerial decisions will be referred to the competent authorities, who will take appropriate measures against violators to protect consumer rights.

The Ministry also urges all citizens and residents to report any violations or infractions related to registration and commercial licensing, or non-compliance with preventive and precautionary measures through the following channels:
