Vice President of Losail Circuit Club Khalid Al Rumaihi announced the postponement of the Qatar Round, which is the first round of the Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK), which was scheduled to be held from March 13 to 15, 2020.
In a press statement, Al Rumaihi said that due to the current conditions related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the difficult arrival of the majority of the participants in the tournament in Qatar, it was decided in coordination with the International Motorcycle Federation, to postpone this round until further notice.
He explained that the date for the Qatar Round of WorldSBK was first set for October, 2020 but was brought forward to March, 2020 due to maintenance work in the Losail International Circuit.
Al Rumaihi stressed the importance of holding the opening round of Grand Prix of Qatar, even if the MotoGP race was canceled, adding that the Moto2 & Moto3 Classes represent the future of motorcycles in the world during the next two seasons.
The Vice President of Losail Circuit Club stressed Qatar's keenness to provide all precautionary measures before hosting this global event in Doha in order to run the event in a safe manner, expressing regret for the cancellation of the MotoGP race, while saying that these are precautionary measures in light of the current situation and great concerns in the whole world because of Coronavirus outbreak.
