In a Tweet, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), has announced that the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) approves third vaccine dose against COVID-19 for individuals with Immuno-Suppressive Conditions.

As per the official announcement:

  • The use of a third vaccine dose of Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna COVD-19 vaccines is only for certain individuals who are severely immunocompromised and especially vulnerable to severe COVID-19 infection.
  • The third dose is intended to improve immunocompromised people's response to their initial vaccine series.
  • It is not considered as a booster dose, given to people when the immune response to a primary vaccine series is likely to have waned over time.
  • Individuals who are eligible for the third vaccine dose will be contacted directly by Primary Health Care Corporation or by a member of their specialist care team at Hamad Medical Corporation to be scheduled to receive the 3rd dose.

The Ministry said the decision to administer the third dose to this select group is in line with current clinical evidence and MOPH will review this regularly and take additional decisions regarding an additional dose for other groups as more evidence becomes available.
