The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) affirmed in a statement Tuesday evening that the COVID-19 vaccine is only given to people who have received invitations to get the vaccine and who have met the criteria set forth in the framework of the COVID-19 National Vaccination Program.

The Ministry said that it has followed up the severe overcrowding which took place at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) on 30 March 2021 after a large number of people arrived at the same time to get the vaccination without a prior appointment. The large and temporary crowding led to a lack of observance of social distancing standards, which is unacceptable.

The Ministry underlined that it is currently working closely with the concerned authorities to ensure the effective and safe organization of the vaccination program, and to emphasize the observance of social distancing standards at all times.

The Ministry reiterated that the vaccination appointments at QNCC are organized through prior invitations only, and entry into the vaccination center is permitted only after the completion of the appointment verification processes, stressing that entry to the center will not be permitted without a prior appointment.

The Ministry called on those willing to take the vaccine to register via the COVID-19 Vaccine Platform of the Ministry of Public Health.

It noted that the process of taking vaccination appointments remains unchanged, as PHCC teams communicate directly with people who meet the criteria for getting the vaccine via SMS or phone calls to book the appointments.

Priority in vaccination appointments will be given to people who meet the criteria to receive the vaccine and those who have already registered their desire to receive the vaccine through the online registration system, in accordance with the National Vaccination Program.
