The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the Department of Fisheries, has announced the allocation of fish markets at Al Wakrah, Al Khor and Al Ruwais to sell fish directly to wholesalers, and also allow the sale of fish directly to contractors (fish shops).
This came after the announcement of suspending auction at the Umm Salal Fish Market as as a precautionary measure by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Ministry said that the fish will be sold in accordance with controls and conditions that include selling in kilograms, the need for fish to be checked by the veterinarian at the port before it is offered for sale, and that the owner of the permitted cruiser is to provide a weighing machine in accordance with health specifications and stainless steel, and that fish is also displayed and preserved in plastic refrigerators.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is urging consumers to report any violations of its decisions by calling 16001 or emailing [email protected] or through its accounts on social media sites.
