Families are highly advised to be vaccinated to protect particularly their older relatives during the third COVID-19 wave. Older adults can get vaccinated easily in a primary health centre, Rumailah Hospital or in their home care service.

As people age, their natural immune system diminishes over time, making them more susceptible to infection. Older people are more likely to have chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension and asthma that make them more at risk of severe symptoms of COVID. Older adults are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19; which means that older adults with COVID-19 might need hospitalisation, intensive care, or a ventilator to help them breathe.

Anyone who had their second vaccine dose more than 6 months ago is eligible for the booster vaccine. Getting booster shots of the vaccine will significantly increase the immunity against the Omicron variant and all variants.

Options for older people to book a booster appointment:

  • Call your primary health care centre for an appointment on +974 4027 7077.
  • Call the Urgent Elderly Care Unit in Rumailah Hospital on 50876824 Sunday to Thursday: 7 am - 3 pm.
  • HMC Home Healthcare Service patients can call their call centre - but this is only for home care patients.
