Did you know that this week saw 1 death due to COVID-19 in total and the maximum recoveries in a day were 191 recorded on 3 February 2021, while 407 was the highest number of newly infected cases recorded on 4 February 2021? Here are the latest updated weekly trends in terms of recoveries, new cases and deaths related to the current COVID-19 situation.

From 28 January - 4 February 2021, 1,632 people were referred to the Public Prosecution for not wearing masks and 16 for violating the maximum people allowed in a vehicle in Qatar. The total figures of people not wearing masks in Qatar as of 4 February 2021, has reached a figure of 9,069 persons and 293 people for not following the limit of people inside a vehicle.

    From 347 new confirmed cases reported on 28 January, the numbers slightly decreased to 341 the next day, after which it increased to 363 on 30 January, and then decreased to 351 on 31 January. The next day, 1 February, saw 385 new infections, followed by 375 and 396 on the next two consecutive days, before increasing to 407 on 4 February, towards the end of the week.

    From 163 recoveries from the coronavirus (COVID-19) on 28 January, the numbers decreased to 142 on 29 January, following which it further decreased to 112 and then increased to 138 recoveries for the next two days. The numbers then increased to 147 and then to 158 the following two days. The number of recoveries saw a sharp increase to 191 on 3 February and stood at 172 on the last day of the week on 4 February.

        COVID-19 vaccine updates in Qatar

        Qatar started the vaccination campaign against COVID-19 on December 23, the second doses of the vaccine have also started. Here are some of the updates in Qatar:

        • The Ministry of Public Health announced an amendment to the group eligible for coronavirus vaccine. Following this, all residents and citizens aged 60 years and above are eligible to receive the vaccine.
        • The Ministry of Public Health has announced that the COVID-19 vaccination certificate now available on MyHealth Patient Portal. All individuals who have received 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will automatically have a vaccination certificate available for them in the MyHealth Patient Portal 7 days after their second dose. Registration and activation will take approximately 24 hours.
        • Starting Sunday, January 17, 2021, the Ministry of Public Health's new online registration form for the COVID-19 vaccine is open to citizens and residents who want to register their desire to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
        • In a Tweet, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), updated the list of health facilities that have been approved to conduct COVID-19 PCR test. There are now a total of 39 health centres that have been approved.
        • It was also announced that around 70% of the population needs to be vaccinated to make sure that enough people have antibodies and the public can go back to normal without restrictions.
        • The Organising Committee of the National Sport Day said that all NSD activities in indoor settings are not allowed and no contact sports are allowed this year.
        • Here are some important tips for people taking the COVID-19 vaccine, as said by MoPH official:
          - If a person had come in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, the date for taking the second dose should be delayed for 14 days from the date of contact.
          - The person will be fully protected from COVID-19 infection after a week or two from taking the second dose of the vaccine.
        • The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) announced the launch of a weblink on its website where certificates of completing the 2nd dose of COVID-19 vaccine can be downloaded or printed. It also added that certificates can also be obtained via the MyHealth App.

        What can you do to be safe?

        It is important for everyone to play their role in controlling the virus by following the following precautions:

        • Remain committed to social distancing.
        • Avoid social visits to reduce their risk of contracting the virus.
        • Wear a face mask as recommended when out of the house.
        • Wash hands with soap and water regularly; if not available use a sanitiser.
        • It is important that we continue to protect the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases and remind their family members to follow strict measures to reduce the chances of infection, including refraining from social visits.
        • Call the toll free 24/7 coronavirus hotline at 16000 for information or if you have COVID-19-like or flu-like symptoms. This is important as the earlier the disease is detected the easier it will be to receive the right treatment and recover from it.​ The four main testing centres are:
          1. Muaither Health Centre
          2. Rawdat Al Khail Health Centre
          3. Um Slal Health Centre
          4. Al Gharafa Health Centre

        The Ministry also recommends that you regularly visit the MoPH website to view the latest information and instructions related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and for the most up-to-date guidance on how to stay safe.
