With the start of the new school year approaching, there are many questions about the measures that will be taken to ensure a safe return during this pandemic. Speaking to Qatar Radio, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, Director of Public Health, stated that the Ministry of Public Health is working closely with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in assessing the situation. A clear decision will be announced on September 1.

The Director of the Public Health Department at the Ministry of Public Health also said that the most important step remaining for the reopening of schools is the risk assessment by the health and education sector regarding the return of students to schools.

He mentioned the possibility of postponing in-person classes or maintaining distance education. The students might also come in shifts, but this is not confirmed yet.

“There is no doubt that the important point is not to increase the number of positive cases of coronavirus. We are currently assessing the situation and schools that are adhering to the measures will also be evaluated with repeated checks from time to time for students and teachers so that there is a commitment to the physical distance between students,” said Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, as reported by The Peninsula.

The Ministry of Education has earlier announced the three-phase plan for the gradual return to of students to schools during the start of the 2020/2021 academic year.
