Face-mask-1

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently released an infographic on how to properly and safely use masks.

Here are the steps you need to follow:

  • Before touching the mask, wash your hands with soap and water for at least 40 seconds or rub them with an alcohol-based hand gel for 20 seconds.
  • Take the mask and inspect it for tears or holes.
  • Orient which side is the top side (where the metal strip is).
  • Make sure to wear the mask correctly with the coloured side facing outwards and the white side inwards.
  • To attach the mask, place the two rubber bands behind your ears. Pinch the metal strip or stiff edge of the mask so it should mould to the shape of your nose.
  • Pull down the mask's bottom so it covers the mouth and chin.
  • After use: take off the mask; remove electric loops from behind the ears while keeping the mask away from your face and clothes, to avoid touching potentially contaminated surfaces.
  • Discard the mask immediately after using it by placing it inside a bag and then in a bin.
  • Perform hand hygiene after touching or discarding the mask by washing them thoroughly with soap and water or rubbing them with a 70% alcohol-based sterilizer.

The guidelines are in addition to the infographic earlier released by the Ministry of Public Health.
