[UPDATED] Shops and commercial activities now allowed to operate again on weekends

His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior chaired the regular meeting held by the Council this afternoon through video communication technology.

Following the meeting, H.E. Dr. Issa bin Saad Jaffali Al- Naimi, Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, including the following:

At the beginning of the meeting, the Cabinet listened to the explanation given by His Excellency the Minister of Public Health on the latest developments to reduce the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19). The council affirmed the continuation of the measures taken and precautionary measures taken to combat this epidemic, and within the framework of the plan to gradually lift the restrictions imposed by the Coronavirus (Covid-19), decided the following:

1 - Revoking his decision regarding closing shops and stopping all commercial activities on Friday and Saturday of each week.

2 - This decision is effective from Thursday, July 9, 2020.

UPDATE: July 9, 2020

We have reached out to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to clarify if malls will be included in this decision. We were informed that shops inside malls can reopen on weekends and that children under 12 are still not allowed to enter the malls until further notice.
