New precautionary measures: closure of shops until May 30, EHTERAZ app now mandatory, restriction of passengers in vehicles

H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior chaired the extraordinary meeting that the Council held this evening through video communication technology.

After the meeting, H.E. Dr. Isa bin Saad Al-Jafali Al-Nuaimi, Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs made the following:

The Cabinet listened to the explanation presented by H.E. the Minister of Public Health on the latest developments and developments to limit the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The Council stressed the continuation of the work taken with precautionary measures and measures taken to combat this pandemic, and decided the following:

First:

1 - All citizens and residents are obligated to install the EHTERAZ application on smartphones when leaving the house for any reason.

2- This decision is effective from Friday, May 22, 2020, until further notice.

Second:

1 - All citizens and residents are obligated upon departure and movement to not be more than two persons in the vehicle, and a maximum of three persons are permitted in the following cases:

A - Transportation in taxis and limousines.
B - Transfer in private vehicles when driven by the family driver.

2- The ambulances and vehicles of the Ministry of Public Health and the security and military authorities are excluded from this.

3- Take into account what has been decided on reducing the number of people transported by buses to half the capacity of the bus, taking precautionary measures and measures.

4- This decision is effective from Tuesday, May 19, 2020, until further notice.

5- MOI recently clarified that: children are counted as passengers in a vehicle.

Third:

1- The practice of sport shall be in the areas close to the residence area, taking into consideration avoiding gatherings during the exercise and taking the necessary precautions from wearing masks and leaving the safe distance.

2- This decision is effective from Tuesday, May 19, 2020, until further notice.

Fourth:
The Ministry of Interior shall take the necessary measures in this regard.

Fifth:

Closing the shops and stopping all commercial activities during the period from May 19, 2020, to May 30, 2020, with the exception of food and catering shops, pharmacies, and restaurants that submit external requests, and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry shall determine the other necessary activities exempted from this decision.

*E-commerce and delivery businesses are still allowed to operate, confirmed by MOCI. Read more about businesses that can operate during this period.

Sixth:
In the case of non-compliance with these decisions, the penalties stipulated in Decree-Law No. (17) for the year 1990 regarding the prevention of infectious diseases shall be applied to the violator by imprisonment for a period not exceeding three years and a fine not exceeding (200,000) two hundred thousand riyals or one of these two penalties.
