The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) holds a press conference tonight to present the latest developments and statistics related to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in Qatar, in addition, to discuss phase 3 of the gradual lifting of COVID-19 restrictions. Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal and Dr. Hamad Al Rumaihi addressed the press conference. The Chair of the National Strategic Group on COVID-19 and Head of the Infectious Diseases Division at Hamad Medical Corporation, Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal said that Qatar will begin phase 3 on July 28 instead of August 1.

Here are some of the key messages:

  • The new coronavirus across the world is still spreading. But in Qatar, it has started to be contained and the numbers are falling steadily on a daily basis.
  • For Qataris and expatriate professionals the number had been stable but there are still worries as the numbers increase due to the exchange of visits during the upcoming Eid as what had happened with the previous Eid.
  • The number of severe cases that need hospitalization is dropping constantly up to 70 per day recently/ MoPH conducts large numbers of early testing and more are to be conducted.
  • People with chronic diseases are still the most vulnerable irrespective of age.
  • Gatherings and crowded areas are to be avoided and the duration of stay within confined areas is to be short as much as possible.
  • Cooperation of all the members of the society has participated in easing the restrictions but people still to be extra careful to maintain the preventive precautionary measures and physical distancing.
  • The precautionary & preventive measures are still to be followed while entering public places. Good ventilation should be provided at such places and physical distancing to be maintained.
