Congratulations to the winners of Qatar National Day competition: Guess the name of the archeological site
This Island lies in the east coast of Qatar, inside Khor Al Shaqiq Bay. It served as a place of transit and a temporary campsite for trade with Bahrain in the early 2nd millennium BC. It also served as a production site of red-purple dye from shellfish during the Kassite period, as a camp for pearling expeditions during the Sassanian period and a fishing outpost in the Late Islamic period. Today, you can find many mangroves, small fish and crabs, and a large number of migratory birds that travel to the island during the winter months.
