QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question:
Why do some women wear a scarf on their head or black gown?

Name: Khalifa Saleh
From: Doha, Qatar
Position: Law Graduate
Answer:
There are a number of reasons for why women do that. Some say it is required by Islam, some want to wear it on their own, and some people wear it because it's fashionable. To wear the "Abaya" is not only religious, but it is traditional. Just as Chinese women wear Lotus dresses :)

Question:
If I go to Qatar, do I have to follow all the rules?

Name: Khalifa Saleh
From: Doha, Qatar
Position: Law Graduate
Answer:
If you mean the Law, then yes, you have to follow the rules. If I traveled to Japan I shouldn't break the law right? But if you mean Muslim rules, then of course not. At the end of the day, if you are not Muslim, then you don't need to do anything. Qatar is a free country and a very modern place. You don't have to cover yourself (unless you go to Mosque of course), and you can wear whatever you like. ^_^

Question:
Is it true a Muslim can marry four wives? Why?

Name: Khalifa Saleh
From: Doha, Qatar
Position: Law Graduate
Answer:
It's one of those questions that I get asked quite a lot! Yes a Muslim can marry four wives but it is NOT common anymore. This was an old rule during ancient times that since many men used to go to war and die, there used to be many women in old villages. So this rule was made so that the woman would have a man to provide and protect her. Nowadays, it's not normal and since women are so strong these days, I don't think ANY woman would share her husband. :P

Question:
Is it true Qatar's male to female ratio is 2:1?

Name: Khalifa Saleh
From: Doha, Qatar
Position: Law Graduate
Answer:
Yes it's true, but people didn't think of the reason. The fact is, only 45% of Qatar is actually Qatari. The rest of the population are foreigners. At the moment, since Qatar is developing, most expats are male blue collar workers. So that is why the ratio is so high. However, it should be noted that the ratio of male to female Qatari people is 1.1:1 and that the ratio of 2:1 overall is falling to 1.5:1

Question:
How easy is it to get a job in Qatar??

Name: Khalifa Saleh
From: Doha, Qatar
Position: Law Graduate
Answer:
I can't answer this question easily since I don't have an extremely high amount of knowledge, however Qatar is developing at an astonishing rate and business are constantly coming to Qatar for investment reasons. I'd say Qatar has MORE of a potential at a good job and good salary compared to Dubai.

Name: Ryan
From: Cape Town, South Africa
Position: Sonographer
Question:
Will 50,000 USD be enough salary for two people to live on? (The job offered also provides relocation costs, accommodation, transport allowance, insurance, and medical)

Name: Khalifa Saleh
From: Doha, Qatar
Position: Law Graduate
Answer:
First of all you have to consider if you're happy with that salary. (at a personal level). If yes, lets continue!
Second of all, you are getting accommodation, insurance, transport and medical. That is great! It's the best possible thing you could hope for. If you have any children then of course educational allowance could help. I also know that in some companies, you can get 'Family' allowances if you prove you are married and that your partner is unable to get a job.
So you will receive around 15,200 QR a month. 1 Person could live very very comfortably on that, and I think two people could live on it for sure.
Some questions to always ask are:
1) Do vacation days roll over
2) Is the contract immediate or subject to a probationary period
3) Are the allowances given a specific amount or will they handle everything directly? (e.g. will they give you 7,000 QR for an apartment or will they give you the keys to an apartment directly)
