QATAR Fuel ‘Woqod’ has donated 10,000 Sidra trees to be planted all over the country at the Qatar Petroleum’s Environment Fair recently.
The Sidra tree is tough and endemic in Qatar but its propagation has been thriving here with minimum maintenance.
The fair, organised to promote environmental awareness, especially among children, is one of the largest exhibitions staged in the region, which attracts thousands of visitors each year.
“The initiative brings together leading companies in Qatar in a co-ordinated approach to ensure environmental responsibility according to the international regulations,” a company spokesman said.
The official added that Woqod’s participation in the event is a proof of its strategy to implement environmental policies that create sustainable ecosystems.
“Woqod intends to offer recycling points at its service stations to encourage customers to properly dispose wastes such as paper, plastic, glass and aluminium,” he said.
He explained that the company has been using its Vapour Recovery System to transform vapour into liquid fuel thus cutting down on emissions.
“Water recycling system allows Woqod to re-use waste water in the car wash stations and 4,000 litres of used lubricants is being trapped every month for a third party recycling,” he added.
