2. Arvind Rampal, who will be discussing the power of positive thinking as opposed to self-destructive thoughts.

3. Mountain-climber, skydiver and a lot more, Salman Nasser will be bringing his revolutionary perspective on facing challenges and overcoming them.

The event will feature a few more speakers who will have you feeling inspired and ready to take action so get excited!

In light of the event, we spoke to Safwan Shaikh, the lead organizer of this year’s TEDxYouth@ DPSMIS. Here’s what he had to say about the event.

ILQ: As the lead organizer, what can you tell us about your aims for TEDx Youth@ DPSMIS?

Safwan Shaikh: TEDxYouth@ DPSMIS works in line with the principles of TED and aims to spread ideas worth sharing. We hope that through the TED talks at our event, people leave feeling inspired, motivated and with a strong belief in the power of an idea to change the world.

ILQ: Who do you hope your primary audience will be?

SS: Our audience will be the youth of Qatar from the ages 12-25. It will include students (high school and university level), young adults as well as young professionals.

ILQ: How was the theme for this event decided? Why "Breaking Through Inhibitions?"

SS: The theme of the event was decided keeping in mind the audience for the event and how would they relate to it. Since it is a youth event, we felt that "Breaking Through Inhibitions" would be an apt theme. Inhibitions are something we all face in life. They prevent us from expressing ourselves and living our lives freely. We hope that we can inspire people to vault through their inhibitions and pursue their dreams.

ILQ: How do you decide who you would like the speakers for the event to be?

SS: We have an open call for speakers that we put up on our website and our social media pages. Speakers fill out an application which is scrutinized by the curation team and is followed by an interview after which we make a decision. In addition to the open call, we invite some speakers ourselves who we feel have ideas worth sharing at our event.

ILQ: What inspires you to be organizing events like these?

SS: The opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others through such events is what inspires me to organize event such as TEDxYouth@ DPSMIS.

The event definitely sounds like it will be enlightening and eye-opening for young minds!
