The entire planet will once again band as one to commemorate the 11th edition of the annual Earth Hour -- a global movement which aims to provide repose to our beloved Blue Planet by switching all unnecessary lights and electronic gadgets for 60 minutes straight.

As the countdown slowly nears to 8:30 pm, here are some figures worth knowing from Earth Hour's decennial celebration last year:

  • 187 countries and territories participated
  • More than 3,100 landmarks and monuments switched off their lights
  • 30 countries saw the #EarthHour trend
  • Over 3.5 billion impressions of official campaign hashtags
  • 350+ ambassadors and influencers joined the movement
  • 18,526 people donated their Facebook feed and with a potential reach of 12 million
  • 15,393 Facebook pages donated their feed

While this year's observance will for sure be equally-epic, you can make it more special and memorable by leaving the comfort of your home and participating on these 6 Earth Hour-related activities happening around Qatar:
