The Court of First Instance ordered a senior official, who supervises equipment and safety at worksite, a construction company and insurance firm to pay a compensation of QR450,000 as blood money to the families of three labourers killed at a work-related accident in the West Bay area last year. Each family will get QR150,000, the court verdict said. According to a report by Al Sharq, the court also sentenced the senior official to two years in jail and a fine of QR20,000. It also slapped a fine of QR20,000 on the contracting company. Headed by Judge Mamoun Hamour, the court found the company and the official responsible for the accident as they were not following the safety rules. The Peninsula last year reported that the accident happened when a crane being erected at a building site buckled and collapsed. In the accident, four people were killed and three others injured.
