Don’t we all hate it when the air feels thick and our skin feels sticky? This is caused by humidity, which boils down to (no pun intended!) elevated amounts of water vapour in the air. Folks in Qatar are no strangers to the hot, hot heat of summer -- but 2017 is proving one of the most humid on record. To help you cope, we’ve made a list of life hacks that will have you waving bye-bye to the humidex hangover.

1. Relax at indoor facilities:

Stay in places which have air conditioning. Most AC’s have the capability of controlling humidity in the room. There are plenty of indoor entertainment options in Qatar this summer. Get a Qatar Museums’ Culture Pass and check out the current exhibitions at different museums around Doha. Also, the Doha Summer Festival is on until September 5, 2017 at the DECC! Head over and enjoy all the exciting things that DSF has to offer. If not, go ice-skating, bowling , watch a movie, or just go shopping to keep yourself cool this summer.

2. Eliminate humidity in your house:

Keep your house well-ventilated to allow the circulation of air. Turn on the exhaust fans in your kitchen and bathroom; this will pull out the hot air that rises after cooking or after someone has taken a hot shower. Use a dehumidifier to reduce the level of humidity in the air. Avoid drying your clothes indoors in unventilated rooms to prevent condensation and creation of moisture in air. Keep houseplants like peace lilies, English ivy or ferns to absorb the excess moisture in the air.

3. Embrace yourself and take cold showers:

Take cold showers or baths to relax your body. Cold water increases your blood circulation and helps the body relax. It also helps relieve stress and lessen depression.

4. Protect your skin:

Cleanse your face twice a day to get rid of the build-up on your skin. Avoid oil-based skin products as they might clog your pores. Let your skin breathe by using beauty products that have low fragrance, oil, and allergen content. Keep blotting paper at hand to remove the excess oil on your face. Here’s another hack, make DIY blotting paper from coffee filters or parchment paper, and use prickly heat-powder to soothe rashes caused by excessive sweating.

5. Prevent your hair from getting frizzy:

Wear your hair in a bun or high ponytail to avoid irritation around your neck. Deep-condition your hair with coconut oil to avoid frizziness. Use cold water for your hair as it helps to lock in the hair cuticle and seal the lustre. Also, try a small dollop of Argan oil before blow-drying your hair to keep it shiny and smooth.
