1. His Highness Sheikh Tamim visits Turkey

His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani visited Turkey on Thursday, September 14, 2017. This was his first trip abroad since the GC3+1 blockade was imposed on June 5, 2017. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been in solidarity with Qatar from the very beginning -- strongly criticizing the blockade and supporting Qatar through food shipments and the deployment of a contingent of troops to the country. Qatar’s relationship with Turkey is well-celebrated, and His Highness’s visit to Ankara enhances the strength of relations between the two nations. Twitter was flooded with Tweets applauding the state visit!

2. Anti-Qatar conference exposed

The Qatar Global Security and Stability Conference was held in London on Thursday, September 14, 2017. Organized by an unofficial group calling itself Qatar Affairs, what was essentially an anti-Qatar conference included right-wing extremists, pro-Israel figures, and a retired Israeli general. The Qatari opposition was represented by an exiled Qatari businessman called Khalid Al-Hail.

Topics of discussion at the conference included ‘Political Islam and Terrorist Groups’, ‘Qatar and Iran’s Foreign Policy: A Source of Regional Instability, ‘Democracy, Human Rights, and a Quest for Global Prestige’, ‘Al Jazeera -- Free Press or Voice of Terror’, and ‘Qatar’s Economic and Geopolitical Influence’. However, it seemed that most delegates were speaking to a mostly empty room with no more than a few dozen attendees.

3. London Fashion Week receives backlash

London Fashion Week (LFW) started on Friday, September 15, 2017, and is one of the biggest and most celebrated fashion weeks of the year. It showcased designers ranging from Tommy Hilfiger to Rihanna’s Fenty beauty line. However, LFW faced some flack this year as people took to social media to state it was turning into more of an entertainment business -- rather than a fashion showcase. And, some members of the community tried to shed light on the negative sides of LFW by expressing their views over Twitter. Check it out!

4. Ben at Berkely

Conservative radio host and political commentator Ben Shapiro spoke at the UC Berkeley campus in California on Thursday, September 14, 2017. His talk was met with protests outside the venue, and police arresting nine people on charges of carrying banned weapons to battery of a police officer. As you can imagine, Twitter had a lot to say about the incident. While some people poured out support for Shapiro, others were satirically critical...

5. Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma is the strongest and longest tropical cyclone in recorded history...and coming hot on the heels of Hurricane Harvey. Decimating many islands in the Caribbean (the worst hit being Bermuda), this natural disaster formed on August 30, 2017 and went on until September 12. Many countries have jumped in to provide aid to those Caribbean nations and hurricane-struck states in the U.S. Qatar itself even donated $30 million USDin disaster relief funds to Texas in the wake of previous Hurricane Harvey. Here are a few reactions on Twitter to this latest natural disaster...
