His Highness The Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani lands back in Qatar today after a diplomatic mission to the U.S. and an historic address at the 2017 United Nations General Assembly in New York.
His Highness will receive an official welcome in a special ceremony to be held at Hamad International Airport, along with a grand welcome from citizens and residents of Qatar along the Corniche.
As crowds gather to watch the Emiri cavalcade pass by, expect some partial road closures from 4:00 p.m. onwards this afternoon as people come out to celebrate. A public ‘Mahgrib’ prayer will be held at the Corniche to greet His Highness as he arrives.
Hashtags such as #MahgribPrayerOnCorniche, and #QatarReceivingTamim have already begun trending on Twitter this morning! We're also fielding reports that some businesses are giving staff a half-day off to attend the festivities on the Corniche.
