Qatar Participates in International Ministerial Conference

Qatar has participated in the 3rd International Ministerial Conference on Victims of Ethnic and Religious Violence in the Middle East, held in the Belgian capital, Brussels.

Qatar was represented at the conference by HE Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of its Missions to the European Union and NATO.

Addressing the conference, HE the Ambassador Al Khulaifi, said that the State of Qatar contributes to a wide range of humanitarian and development sectors without any discrimination. He noted the pledges and assistance provided by the State for the benefit of the Syrian people since the outbreak of the crisis to date, amounting to approximately $ 1.6 billion .

He also highlighted the importance that Qatar attaches to education as a cornerstone for supporting children around the world to remove them from the critical circle that leads to extremism and terrorism, where the Education Above All Foundation, in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), had launched a new project in September 2017 to enable 95,000 children affected by the war in Syria to receive quality education by co-financing with the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) .

The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani held via telephone a conversation on Wednesday with HE President of Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, QNA reported.

During the conversation, the HH Amir and President of Turkey exchanged greetings on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.

Erdogan invited the HH Amir to attend the Islamic summit scheduled for Friday in Istanbul, to discuss the latest developments in Palestine amidst the violent massacres carried out by the Israeli forces against the defenseless Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. the HH Amir accepted the invitation.


Qatar-U.S. talks to review the bilateral and strategic ties

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani held via telephone a conversation with HE Secretary of State of the United States of America, Mike Pompeo.

During the telephone conversation, they discussed about the reviewing of the bilateral and strategic ties between the State of Qatar and the United States of America, means of enhancing and developing them. Additionally, they in addition to a number of regional and international issues of common concern.

In addition, HE the deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs and HE the U.S. secretary of state discussed the exerted efforts to combat terrorism and its financing. The two ministers also stressed the importance of settling the Gulf crisis.


Qatar donates $50 million to UNRWA

Qatar signed on Wednesday (May 16) an agreement with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani witnessed signing of the agreement.

According to the agreement, Qatar is donating $50 million to protect Palestinian refugees' access to basic education in 2018.

UNRWA Commissioner-General Pierre Krahenbuhl expressed his profound appreciation to Qatar for this vital contribution and said: "The outstanding demonstration of support by the State of Qatar and the Qatar Fund for Development will not only help stabilize UNRWA funding for its operations this year, but it will also encourage other partners to strengthen their commitments and join our efforts to prevent a major humanitarian crisis."
