One of Qatar’s most impactful outreach events, the annual Summer Cool Campaign, returns once again on Saturday, September 9, 2017. Bringing together community groups, volunteers, media outlets, and corporate sponsors, the initiative aims to support 2,000 of Qatar’s blue-collar workers by distributing care packages filled with water, juice, snacks, sunblock, and toiletries to work-sites throughout the country.

Spearheaded by Qatar Volunteers, ILoveQatar.net, and QatarLiving.com, the Cool Campaign was first organized in 2008 by Qatar Volunteers, and will soon be marking 10 years of making a difference in the lives of those workers who are building our city.

“The purpose of the annual Cool Campaign is to make workers aware about heatwaves and how it impacts their health,” said Sayed Ali, Founder of Qatar Volunteers. “We also want to bring smiles to the faces of these workers and help them feel that the communities living in Qatar care for them. It’s important to us that we bridge the gap between white-collar and blue-collar workers, and make them feel as one community.”

Over the years, the Summer Cool Campaign has reached more than half a million workers and labourers across Qatar, with the invaluable help of its volunteers and sponsors.

"Social investment and supporting the community is the backbone of what we do,” said Khalifa Saleh Al Haroon, Founder and CEO of the I Love Qatar Network. “We celebrate our diversity as a nation, and strive to give back to everyone who has had a hand in its growth and development. Supporting those blue-collar workers who are, literally, building our cities and infrastructure from the ground up is a priceless opportunity to express our gratitude for their contribution to Qatar, and to show the world that they have our full acknowledgement and respect. It’s a privilege to be a part of this initiative.”

Those wishing to volunteer for the 2017 Qatar Summer Cool Campaign can do so by visiting the Qatar Volunteers Facebook page (@QatarVolunteers) and following the instructions to submit your expression of interest. Currently there is a need for around 50 volunteers to help collect goods, pack them into coolers and boxes, and aid with the distribution.

“Qatar Living is honoured to be invited to join in the Summer Cool Campaign and promote such a worthwhile initiative,” said Shaun Myburg, Digital Strategist & Content Writer, Qatar Living. “With the help of both public and corporate volunteers, we hope to shine a light on those who are helping Qatar evolve and, in turn, help them stay cool this summer.”

Supporting the 2017 Summer Cool Campaign as sponsors are Drbak Limousine and Altair IT Solutions, who will provide 2,000 assorted tetra packs of juice, cool boxes, crushed ice, and T-shirts for the volunteers; Wa’hab, who will provide 2,000 water bottles; Vichy, who will provide 2,000 mini-tubes of sunblock and moisturizer, The Shangri-La Hotel, Doha who will provide space for volunteers to pack the boxes, and a meal for all the volunteers; and King Koil Qatar who will print Cool Campaign-branded T-Shirts for all volunteers.

Collection of goods and items will take place on Thursday, September 7, 2017, packing of all boxes and coolers will be on Friday, September 8, and distribution will take place on Saturday, September 9.
