The Orientalist Museum is hosting a charity benefit at this weekend’s MIA Park Bazaar. As part of the museum’s ongoing Afrehom project, they will be selling tote bags and cushions made from recycled art material at a market stall. All proceeds from the sale will go to Qatar Charity’s Blind Children initiative.
Afrehom - which means ‘make them happy’ in Arabic – looks at ways to recycle art material for charity. Initiated by Mr. Kabir Abdulrazak, the Orientalist Museum’s Head of Operations, and Ms. Fatema Sorore, the Orientalist Museum’s Head of Events, the project raised over QR 12,000 for charity last year through the sale of tote bags.
The project was so successful the Orientalist Museum has now added customised cushions to its list of recycled art material. Made from art collateral used in the Heritage of Art Diplomacy exhibition (held at the Museum of Islamic Art in 2013), the limited edition cushions come in two sizes and feature original art material used in the exhibition.
The cushions will be available for sale alongside a selection of limited edition tote bags created from the Art of Travel exhibition collateral. Speaking about the upcoming market stall, Ms. Fatema Sorore said the project; “brings recycled graphic banners to life. It’s a creative way to re-use materials and raise money for Qatar Charity. Plus each bag and cushion is entirely unique. You won’t find another one like it.”
The MIA Park bazaar takes place this Saturday, February 1. The Orientalist Museum market stall will be open from 12 noon to 7pm.
