Qatar National Day (QND) is around the corner, and with the air of joyous and patriotic celebrations comes an enforcement of strict traffic and security measures.

A press conference was held yesterday at the Ministry of Civil Defense that highlighted the “dos and don’ts” of QND celebrations.

Lieutenant Colonel. Muhammad Radhi al Hajiri, Director of Traffic Awareness and Media Department emphasized the importance of mutual respect, non-infringement on others privacy, and avoidance of unsafe approaches.

Doha residents are advised to leave for their destinations early to arrive on time, due to the road closures, mainly on the Corniche.

Celebrations will be happening all over Doha, from the Corniche to the Cricket Stadium in Industrial Area. There will be bus transportation to the celebration venues from different points such as the Muhammad bin Abdul Wahab Masjid (Mosque), the Tennis and Squash Complex, Arumeila Roundabout, and the Sheraton.

First Lieutenant. Ahmad Thani al Musaifiri urges people to avoid security violations during the QND celebrations, like coming out of windows or roofs, use of masks, spraying foam on cars, shading front glass and windshield, entirely changing the color of cars, hiding number plates, and blocking traffic on roads.

The 999 helpline can be accessed at any time. The system has been set up to identify the location of the caller through the numbers given on the lamp-posts so that the security patrol can reach them easily. Any person seeking help, or people who have lost their children, can call this number and mention the number of the nearest lamp-post.

The traffic patrol will be available on all streets and signals on the Corniche.

The Corniche will be open during the evening for people to watch fireworks.
