Qatar Guide: How to renew your Tourist or Family Visa in Qatar

It’s that time of year where the visitors start flocking in, spare rooms are filling up, and one question fills the backs of our minds, what to do if our friends, family, and loved ones want to extend their stay? This means renewing and extending either their tourist or family visa.

There are many visa options when travelling to Qatar and it’s always best to check prior to arriving which visa is required. Here’s a few important links to help you do that:

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior website gives details and user-friendly information based on nationality and residence status via two Dropboxes – just pick your country of residence and your passport nationality, and it will provide you with up-to-date visa information.

Extending Your Tourist Visa

Individuals traveling to Qatar on tourist, business, or other visas can extend their visa online through Qatar’s Ministry of Interior website, if the concerned visa is extendable. The service can also be availed through the MOI Qatar Self-Service Machines and the Metrash2 application.

Family Visa

Residents can apply for a short-term family visit visa for their families to enter Qatar. The visa is valid for one month. However, relatives who wish to stay beyond one month may undergo a physical health examination within the first 72 hours of arrival in order to apply for an extension. The visa can be extended for another five months for first- and second-degree relatives and in-laws (Ex: father, mother, sister, and children), and can be extended for only two months in case of other relatives.
