Ooredoo Reminds Customers to be Wary of Calling Scams Via Apps

Ooredoo has today reminded customers to be vigilant and not trust calls via social media or communication applications (apps) wherein the caller ID displays ‘Ooredoo’.

Fraudsters are able to change their caller ID or display names to ‘Ooredoo’ using some of the popular communication apps, to ring customers and ask for credit card and account details, or top-up credit details in order to release a fake ‘prize’.

According to the company, Ooredoo representative will ring customers via the account number 4420 0000 only, and all calls registered under the caller ID name ‘Ooredoo’ received via apps are fake.

The company has urged customers to report any scam numbers via the 111 call centre and to block suspicious numbers via their selected caller ID apps.

Ooredoo is actively working with local technology companies and overseas operators to ensure their customers avoid being victimised by ongoing scams.

Executives at Ooredoo have stressed that the company does not sell or provide external organisations with customer records such as telephone numbers and that customer service representative will never ask for key information such as bank details on calls.
