Ooredoo, HMC ready ‘remote care’ solution

Following an announcement at Qitcom 2017, Ooredoo and Hamad Medical Corp (HMC) have confirmed that work for the ‘Proof of Concept for Remote Care at Home’ initiative is moving forward.
Ooredoo and HMC signed a memorandum of understanding in March to support the launch of an advanced mobile and digital solution to enhance the level of care and convenience for continuing care patients in Qatar.
The service, which is described as the first of its kind in the region, will deliver home care for patients with different conditions requiring monitoring and support, and also provide proactive care and support to help patients become more independent.
Since the signing of the agreement, both organisations have “worked solidly to outline the technology required and the services HMC and Ooredoo can offer patients receiving care from HMC’s Home Healthcare and Community Services Department”, according to a press statement.
“The introduction of telemonitoring and remote care marks an important step towards the implementation of the Ministry of Public Health’s National Continuing Care Strategy and Hamad Medical Corporation’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and efficiency of its home and community services. Our project with Ooredoo will support these efforts and will facilitate the use of mobile and information technology to promote patient engagement and improved healthcare self-management,” said Mahmoud Saleh al-Raisi, chief of HMC’s Continuing Care Group, Senior Responsible Owner, National Continuing Care Strategy.
Remote care services will enable patients in Qatar to access the care they need from their homes.
It will be particularly useful for people suffering from conditions that prevent them from being physically mobile, patients who need long-term management of their condition, or people undergoing rehabilitation post discharge.
By reducing the need to travel to hospital and enabling patients to remain at home with their families, remote care services will boost the “quality of care and quality of life”, the statement notes.
