The Skate Girls of Kabul exhibition depicts the amazing story of young Afghani girls who use skateboarding as a unique means of transportation to attend school and as a symbol of self-expression through sports and uniting the youth as a community. This access to skateboarding has been organized by an international non-profit organisation, Skateistan, that empowers the youth specifically through skateboarding and education.

The stunning new exhibit at the Qatar Museums Gallery Katara features 40 different images of Afghani girls that make bold statements and break stereotypes. These images were captured by the talented photographer Jessica Fulford-Dobson, who hopes that the photo series portrays the individuality and uniqueness of the community that they built around their shared experiences.

“The photographs emitted a sense of hopefulness and perseverance, reaching out into the audience to grab the guest’s attention with their subjects’ determined gazes. This powerful show, in yet another example, of Qatar Museums’ focus on bringing high-profile exhibitions to Qatar with the aim of inspiring an indigenous culture of creativity and innovation,” says Khalid Al-Ibrahim, Chief Strategic Planning Office at Qatar Museums.

The Skate Girls of Kabul is presented by QM under the leadership of its chairperson, HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and will be on show at the QM Gallery in Katara from 20th July - 21st October 2017.
