Mascot named for AFC U23 Championship

Nagim the desert fox has been announced as the official mascot for the upcoming AFC Under 23 championship, which is to be held in Doha from the 12th of January 2015. The tournament will feature sixteen of the best sides in Asia competing for the prestigious AFC U23 crown.

Why was the desert fox chosen?

The desert fox, has been living in Qatar nature for a very long time. The fox characteristics are; smart, has speed, always active and powerful. All of those characteristics are the most important for a successful sportsman to have. It was because of those characteristics that the Local Organizing Committee choose the desert fox as the official mascot for AFC U23 Championship Qatar 2016.

Today we are announcing Nagim, (the mascot) who will have a major role to promote the AFC U23 Championship Qatar 2016.

Nagim will appear in scheduled activities in the lead up to the tournament, visiting many places to promote and create awareness for the tournament with spectators, encouraging them to attend, enjoy and support their teams at the matches.

Nagim will also be present at the tournament matches to motivate and support players alongside the fans, who are looking to give their best performances to achieve their dream.

The tournament also doubles as qualification for the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, with top 3 sides qualifying for the summer games.
