Bahrain to ease airspace curbs on Qatar from today

Bahrain will ease airspace restrictions on Qatar from today following International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) directives, sources said.

“While the first ease of Bahrain Flight Information Region (FIR) airspace to Qatar is effective tomorrow, more airspace is scheduled to open effective August 17,”  a tweet from noted aviation analyst Alex Macheras said.

In aviation, a flight information region (FIR) is a specified region of airspace in which a flight information service and an alerting service (ALRS) are provided. Every portion of the atmosphere belongs to a specific FIR.

*UPDATE - Monday, August 7, 2017, 5:05 pm: This is a developing story. At the moment, the only verifiable source reporting on this issue is Alex Macheras on his Twitter channel, @Alexbyair, and the Gulf Times - who also seem to have sourced their information from the same account.

ILQ has also reached out to Qatar Airways for comment.
