In a press conference held at the Aspire Dome on Thursday, Aspire Academy and ‘Teach For Qatar’ (TFQ) signed a new two-year partnership agreement that will take effect this summer.

Under the agreement, TFQ will hone the skills of young teachers in Qatar as part of its Summer Institute and Camp Qatar, preparing them for a role at Aspire Academy in the new academic year. The agreement also facilitates the exchange of knowledge and expertise between Aspire Academy and TFQ, which will aid the development of sports and academic excellence in Qatar.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Ivan Bravo, Director General of Aspire Academy, and Mr. Nasser Al-Jaber, CEO of TFQ. Also in attendance were Ali Salem Afifa, Deputy Director General of Aspire Academy, Mr. Badr Al Hay, Director of Education and Student Affairs of Aspire Academy, Jassem Al-Jaber, Aspire Academy’s School Principal, Ali Sultan Fakhroo, Director of Corporate Services at Aspire Academy, and Mr. Khalid Omar Yassin, Head of Recruitment, Selection and Matriculation at TFQ.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Ivan Bravo, Director General of Aspire Academy, said: “I’d like to extend my warm thanks to TFQ for offering its unique Summer Institute and Camp Qatar initiatives, which will elevate teaching expertise in Qatar, increase teacher numbers, and engage more people in the education process.

“Aspire Academy views education as a key pillar to character development. We’re therefore very excited to welcome the new trainees to Aspire Academy's facilities, where the summer camp will be held, and we will make sure we share our expertise and help accommodate their needs during their stay with the Aspire family.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Nasser Al-Jaber, CEO of TFQ, commented: “We’re very proud to partner with a pioneer such as Aspire Academy. This new partnership will play a vital role in enhancing the training experience for the young teachers enrolled in our summer programme. Not only do such partnership agreements benefit us as an organisation, but they also benefit Qatar as a whole by strengthening the pool of education taken on offer.”

Since opening its doors in 2004, Aspire Academy has become one of the foremost national sports academies in the world,  sitting at the heart of a sporting revolution currently underway in Qatar and the region. Working as part of Aspire Zone Foundation, the Academy develops its student-athletes holistically, providing them with a comprehensive academic, social and sporting education in a unique setting in which programmes are designed around student capabilities and needs but also factor in time at training camps and championships.

TFQ is a local NGO that gives young leaders the tools to inspire children in the classroom and beyond. Born of the belief that the next generation of leaders should be inspired by the best of the current crop of leaders in the country, TFQ forms part of the initiative led by Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani that provides niche, innovative solutions to Qatar’s education challenges.

TFQ recruits the country’s young leaders to take part in a rigorous teacher-training program and two-year teaching placement in one of the country’s schools. TFQ is the 32nd member of the Teach for All Network (TFA), recognised as one of the world’s 100 strongest NGOs in 2013 by the Global Journal.
