Aspetar – the orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital in Qatar, has launched ‘Healthy Ramadan with Aspetar Experts' campaign for professional and recreational athletes on its social media channels. The ‘Healthy Ramadan with Aspetar Experts' initiative is being promoted on social media with the hashtag #Healthy_Ramadan

Aspetar’s campaign aims to encourage people to remain active and healthy during the Holy Month of Ramadan. The campaign will feature a multidisciplinary team of experts in nutrition, psychology, research, and oral health amongst others.

Through a range of tips and advices captured in short videos, Aspetar’s experts will provide guidance for people fasting on a range of topics. These include diet, sleep patterns and optimal exercise times.

The ‘Healthy Ramadan with Aspetar Experts” campaign will also draw on the expertise of Aspetar's world-renowned medical professionals, by sharing details of leading research they have produced on the effects of fasting on sports performance and health overall. These will be particularly relevant and useful for athletes preparing for major competitions taking place during Ramadan such as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League 2017.

The campaign follows the success of Aspetar’s innovative awareness initiatives such as 'Ask the Doctor’ and ‘Beat the Heat’.

The expert video series will be available through Aspetar’s YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels. Ramadan-related health topics will also be the focus of the latest edition of Namat magazine, produced by Aspetar and due to be issued soon.

Aspetar produces a wide range of videos designed to encourage people to be active and healthy year-round, featuring topics such as useful exercises and common diseases related to sedentary lifestyles. People who are interested to learn more and benefit from Aspetar’s expertise can visit Aspetar’s interactive Namat website www.namat.qa

Namat is a national and regional public health education platform developed by the Exercise Is Medicine Department at Aspetar. Namat shares knowledge and enhances current understanding about best practice guidelines for physical activity and healthy eating, contributing to a sustained change in positive lifestyle behaviours in Qatar and other Arab societies. In February 2015, the Namat website won first prize at the Gulf Excellence Award for Media in Riyadh, KSA, for the best health web platform.
