Every week ILQ features a different Qatari startup in a segment called ‘Startup of the Week’. Qatar has some of the most creative, unique, and impactful startups in the region. We cover different startups across various industries in Doha, from fashion and beauty to food and dining, to health and education, and more! This week we’re featuring Wanasah, a local in-cab media provider and ad-tech company.

Similar to ‘in-flight’ entertainment, Wanasah provides ‘in-cab’ entertainment, information and advertisements to passengers who take taxis or private limos to journey around Doha. Wanasah can be accessed in the form of tablets within these forms of transport.

This startup is an out-of-home digital channel that aims to serve three segments: Brands/businesses — Startups who are desperate to get the word out, SMEs, the government, F&B, retail, malls, event managers, and almost every possible corporate group in Qatar that spends on advertising.

Passengers — Tourists, business travelers, and residents who use Uber, Careem, or even rent high-end cars.

Limousine Companies & Drivers — Their aim is to provide the best service possible and increase their revenues and customer ratings (drivers).

This unique startup was founded by Sophie Bestika Abdulaziz and Abdullah Yousef Ali. They applied for the Lean Startup Program hosted by Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC) and graduated from the 10-week program along over 40+ other startups. Wanasah was one of the few that was granted seed-funding, mentorship, and an office space.

“Our concept may be new in Qatar, but [it’s] an old tale in developed countries (Taxi TV to Cab Tablets),” Bestika said. “…We have managed to identify the gaps which we are working hard to fill beginning in Qatar, the ‘Qatar-market way,’ but definitely with high hopes to expand globally. I am confident that we have gone a long way from meeting over 200+ business owners and decision-makers who influence our every development decision.”

As an ad-tech company that will provide its services in forms of transport, Wanasah combines the best of two worlds: digital and out-of-home.

“Part of our aim is to change the way passengers move around Qatar by transforming idle traffic time to valuable, informative, and entertaining limousine experiences,” Bestika said.
