Every week ILQ features a different Qatari startup in a segment called ‘Startup of the Week’. Qatar has some of the most creative, unique, and impactful startups in the region. We cover different startups across various industries in Doha, from fashion and beauty to food and dining, to health and education, and more! This week we’re featuring SONEX, a Qatari startup that offers efficient smart home solutions and electronics.
SONEX provides smart products for your homes. The startup is currently incubated at Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC). The main goal for the company is to make its customers’ lives easier by helping them make their home more secure.
Currently, SONEX is developing a smart power socket, which is going to be released very soon in the local market. The SONEX team is also working on more electronic solutions that they plan to reveal over the next few years.

The company was founded by Mohammed Al-Suwaidi, the General Manager, and Mohammed Abou Nada, the Managing Partner. The idea for SONEX was conceived by About Nada at Ooredoo Qatar’s Hackathon Program. It later evolved into what it is today at Qatar Business Incubation Center’s (QBIC) program, where it won an award to be incubated.
“SONEX started with the principle of two models of smart sockets: the mounted socket and the portable socket,” said Mohammed Al-Suwaidi. “We are aiming to lead in the automation solutions market. With the passion and enthusiasm of our team we can achieve our vision and mission.”
The smart sockets sound super cool. Apparently they’re WiFi power sockets that will let you control your devices from anywhere, allowing you to even turn your devices on and off remotely!
SONEX will also soon release an app sometime this year. It will be available in both Arabic and English, making it easier for people to connect their devices to the Cloud.
