My parents just moved to Qatar in August and I have already ventured over there 3 times! I absolutely love it and the people there are so friendly and helpful. You will see many amazing things there and it is truly up to you to go out and explore such an amazing place. There is so much to do and my mom blogs about here daily life in Qatar for all of the relatives living back home to see what she does and how she is surviving in her new world. I thought I would share her blog with ya'll because it is filled with fun things that go on in the life of my mom...an average woman who's first trip out of the states (other than mexico) was Qatar. http://qatariadventures.blogsp… grin

My favourite part was going to the corniche, no wait, the traditional market, no wait, the sheeshas.. I don't know know I just enjoyed my time ALOT.

I just got back from Doha and had a wonderful time. Such a lovely ultra-modern city with beautiful malls and the corniche was gorgeous.
The people were really friendly as well- one thing I was curious about and didn't find out was employment. Didn't see any locals working. This must be a blow to them!
Anyway, i really recommend Doha as a tourist destination and the 4 seasons was amazing place to stay!!

I'm an angry person.
//this post has been editted for disrespect

I wish I knew why you have made it your mission to spread garbage. If you had sent me an email as I asked you to, I'd have gladly shown you around and introduced you to people. If you don't like Qatar, please move on to the next country which can satisfy you.
Stop wasting everybody's time. If you despise the country, I don't know why you are so hell-bent on posting, reposting, and not even respecting the kind request of the admin. I'll have to block your IP. Apologies in advance.

I am currently in Doha. It is a land of hidden surprises. One hears from people that lifes slow out in Doha and nothing to do much after seeing the malls, beaches, souqs, etc. But they forget to mention that even these things can be visited life long and be full of excitement everytime one visits it. Lifes about working, recreation, peace of mind, time off with family and shopping. One can find this not in many countries in todays world. I have travelled around but got these things in Doha. Out here you can find Mosques which according to me are Wonders of the World. People are God fearing, full of hospitality and Fun loving. You can see that on the weekends how everyones off to beaches with their own tables, chairs, barbecues, etc. The country is free from political issues which is impossible to find in the world. The rulers are always doing things which would get the country and its people on top of the Globe.
Qatar is a small country and capital Doha is smaller. But its true that GOOD THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES. God bless such a wonderful piece of His Art.

One more thing. I watched recently a documentary of Asian workers on Al Jazeera working in Qatar who are treated in a horrible manner. What do the Muslims in Qatar do to help these poor people considering that Islam is all about kindship and caring for others. Why does this even exist in a Muslim country? Do the locals do alot to help these poor souls considering they have so much money? THe Muslims must be so upset to see this happen in their home country.

This isn't really a discussion section, but I don't mind answering what I can. If you really did watch the documentary clearly you'd see that 85% was showing the Emirates, it also clearly highlighted that it's in fact the agencies in India for example that take extortionate amounts.
As I tell everyone, never generalize, if you looked at various forums you'd see that people are making a difference within Qatar. Have you looked to the left of this site? You'd see that I am part of a group that are doing charitable acts to help workers who work in the heat to help make Qatar a better place. Or perhaps you are simply seeing what you want to see?
I'm a Muslim and I will do my best to help out those that I can and I will also do whatever I can to make Qatar a better place.
I can assure you that Qatar is a unique country ^_^ If you do visit or have visited, I truely hope that you have a great experience, it would be my pleasure to show you around and make friends with you.

Explain to me what is so luxurious about Qatar and the "Arab hospitality" that comes with it. With that I'm guessing your like the rest of the Middle East and invite strangers, expats, foreigners to your home? So when I enter Qatar like I have, Syria, Jordan, Libya, Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, Yemen, Tunisia, Sudan, Afghanistan, etc. do I get that warm reception like I have had everywhere else in the Middle East? Do the locals on the street invite me to their homes and show me the country like they do everywhere ellse in the Middle East? I only ask because most of my Muslim friends say that the Gulf Arabs are different as they have so much money, and don't understand what true Arab hospitality is all about. Please I would like your opinion :). Thank you :)

Luxury and Hospitality are two different things. Luxury comes in many forms.
When it comes to hospitality, you'd see that many people who have blogs share different opinions. As with all countries you can't find ONE type of person.
Gulf Arabs are known to help out, and I've helped out dozens of foreigners when they've needed help or information. I hope that I am representing my nation with my actions.
It is odd to say 'do locals on the street invite you into their homes'. I've heard of it happening, but it doesn't matter which country I'm in, if a person invites me into his home I'd worry.
I've yet to be invited into a persons home in all the european and western countries I've been to.
Arab hospitality is about taking care of your guests, helping those who need help and being gracious hosts.
But again, you'll find people who are traditional and with high values and some who aren't.
Just as with any country in the world.

The country of Qatar in my personal opinion is a good place to be. For What I have experience in Qatar is just merely pure friendship and lots of freedom.

Yes, It does have his ups and downs like anywhere in the planet.

But to live here and work here for me has being a challenge and a blessing. But not impossible to overcome.

Example of this are:

1- Driving in Qatar.

The traditional and customary driving habits are challenging to adapt. But If you play it safe and cautious you will survive. Learn the rules of the road and local landmarks that will be your compass, If you don't understand Arabic.

2- Religion:

The local Islamic customs is just matter of accepting them as part of their lives and most important respecting them.

If you read and put a little effort in understanding Islamic traditions and culture you will understand the Muslim society a lot better.

3- Modernization and Progress:

For the great part of the Infrastructure of QATAR is under going a great manifesto of construction boom. Just deal with it and keep a positive smile towards progress.

Progress is always a good token of fun and prosperity for this State and its people residing alike.

Qatar will be the next commercial hub Center in my opinion.

4- Behavior:

Don't be arrogant or fearless to the local population they are very clever, Superbly educated and they know better English and other languages than the ex-patriot community, They will not hesitate in letting you know the right path to political correctness If that is the case.

Qatar's people are super friendly, clean cut and very amicable. Not like some places I visit with their hostilities towards foreigners. 5-Melting pot of races Most of the population is composed of different nationalities working here for different corporations and industries. Is a melting pot of people from different customs and religions. Like a box of chocolate, lots of shapes and sizes. 6- Shopping and Entertainment Plenty of Clubs to visit and Party. Gorgeous Hotels and excellent live concert and DJ'S. Example of this was this past winter their DUNE-STOCK concert. Equivalent to {Wood-stock}"No evil plants" in this concert you get my drift? I loved their Jazz concert in the desert. One desert area, they call it :"The singing dunes", which is a national natural treasure. What a blast to see and listen too at night There is plenty of restaurant to fit your taste and life style and finally Shop until you drop dead! in all their fantastic malls and Souks. If you got the money and Time to do it. and Welcome to QATAR, and remember is not what others mention, Is how you experience your stay! Red_Pope
