Dining is meant to be experienced with all our senses. We eat with our eyes first as the saying goes, but we pay with our wallets – which, more often than not, end up feeling the strain as much as our waistlines. So when we heard rumblings that the Marriott Marquis City Center Doha was launching a Food Fest across their 10 outlets with a tagline as come-hither as ‘Wherever you go, it’s QR 100!’, you bet our ears perked up!

Running until August 31, 2017, the premise is simple. Go to any of their 10 food and beverage outlets and enjoy special menu promotions for just 100 riyals. Job done! …Or is it? Visiting all 10 restaurants would be a tasty mission best spread out over a long weekend – but, because we’re ambitious, the ILQ team tried to tackle 6 of them in one day!

Ready? On your marks, get set…GO!

CROSSROADS KITCHEN

Buffet breakfast for 2

6:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m.

Lunch for 1 (Sun-Thurs)

12 noon till 3:00 p.m.  = QR 100

The hotel’s signature all-day dining hotspot, there’s something to tickle the fancy of even the fussiest foodies here. Our first stop to start our day, we particularly loved the natural honey-comb dripping its golden nectar as fodder for our morning scones or croissant. They’ve also got a vitamin-packed fresh juice station that will boost your energy and keep you hydrated. Be sure to indulge in the fresh omelette and eggs station, and ask them to pile those stacks of pancakes extra high!

Or, if you opt for a lunchtime pit-stop, you’ll find a wide array of hot and cold stations in daily rotation at their buffet. Go for some freshly-tossed pasta al dente at the Italian station, and be sure to pile your plate high with some fresh crunch from their wholesome salad bar!

10 éclairs

10:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m. = QR 100

What kind of colleagues would we be if we didn’t bring some sweet treats back with us for our team at the office? If you’re having a busy morning, or fancy a mid-afternoon sugar pick-me-up but don’t have much time – swing by the hotel’s West End Patisserie on the lobby level. Load up on 10 lush éclairs of your choosing – chocolate glazed, pink icing, caramel drizzle…all filled with a silky-smooth Chantilly cream that ticks all the boxes for sinful indulgence.

Unlimited afternoon tea

2:00 p.m. till 5:00 p.m. = QR 100

Can’t get enough of those dainty, pop-in-your-mouth finger sandwiches? Neither can we! So, by the time 3:00 p.m. rolled around, we found ourselves plonked in front of a stand full of them. The cucumber variety were crunchy and moreish – not to mention refreshing…while the scones and clotted cream are the perfect partner in crime to a steaming cup of Earl Grey. While in an open area, the café manages to remain intimate and cozy. In addition to the trays of sandwiches and scones, the afternoon tea is also served with a mini sweet stand, and a chocolate fondue with marshmallows, brownie-bits, and fresh strawberries. Yum!

Unlimited Picanha & pineapple with

salad/dessert bar

6:30 p.m. till 11:30 p.m.

Friday brunch

12:30 p.m. till 3:30 p.m. = QR 100

The hotel’s flagship Brazilian restaurant remains as vibrant as ever and as mouth-watering as always. Authentic food, drink, and ambiance make for a killer combo all year-round – even when Carnaval’s not in season! On the night we visited, the restaurant was packed, with even more guests on the waiting list – always a good sign! For the Food Fest promotion, you can fill your plate with savoury starters from the salad bar and cold stations – including some very traditional Brazilian accompaniments. The restaurant’s signature cut of meat, the crispy, yet unctuous Picanha, is unlimited, as is what may arguably be the best palate cleanser to ever pass your lips – their rotisserie grilled pineapple. Juicy and charred with crystalized brown sugar, it's a taste experience that requires a moment of silence afterwards. Trust us on this one.

Or, if you opt to head over with your mates on a Friday you can enjoy their brunch with all the trimmings – probably the best deal in town at the moment for QR 100, no questions asked. One other thing we should mention is that the restaurant has started to throw in 3 additional cuts of meat that rotate daily, on top of their unlimited Picanha and pineapple – because hey, why not! Signature trio-steak platter

6:30 p.m. till 11:30 p.m. = QR 100

If hobbits can have second breakfasts and elevenses, then by-gosh we can have second dinner! (Or at least try to!) With some of the team carving it up in Ipanema, a few of our ILQ-ers made their way over to New York Steakhouse, the hotel’s fine-dining piece de resistance to sink their teeth into a Food Fest favourite – the trio-steak platter. Australian and U.S. Grade A beef fillets await – perfectly-seared and resting in their own juices. Accompaniments include a mushroom gravy jus, crispy onion cracklings, and a honey-mustard reduction that’s piquant and oh-so-sweet. The meat is soft, melt-in-your-mouth, and cooked a perfect medium-rare. Top marks for taste and value for money!

3-course menu and 1 beverage

12 noon till 11:00 p.m.  = QR 100

Rounding out the night (and the last outlet on our whistle-stop tour of Food Fest), is the hotel’s beloved Italian Kitchen, Cucina. A stalwart on Doha’s Italian dining scene it continues to please patrons with a comfortable, homey atmosphere, candlelit ambiance, and a menu that will have you saying ‘Grazie mille!’ Especially when you get the bill!

The Food Fest QR 100 at Cucina will get you a sumptuous three-course menu, plus one beverage. The starter is a Caprese salad with fresh vine tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella, while for our mains it’s a toss-up between their seafood pasta with handmade linguine, plump mussels and prawns, and toothsome calamari – or, one of their classic wood-fired pizzas. You know the kind, where the melted cheese strings out a mile long… Drooling yet? You’d do well to be, as the meal is rounded out with a luscious, silken vanilla pannacotta laced with forest fruits and a berry reduction. Buon appetito!

These were just some, but not all of the Food Fest promotions now on offer at the Marriott Marquis City Center Doha until August 31, 2017. If you’re curious as to the rest of them – don’t be. Because here they are!
