Doha has an abundance of luxurious experiences when it comes the finer things in life – and which we inhabitants love and adore. But, sometimes, when it comes to food it doesn’t have to be pinkies-up, wallet-denting with a hint of ‘I’m so fancy’. It can be simply delicious without skimping on the service and quality.

So, if you love the food scene in Doha as much as we do, then you’ll appreciate some of these beautiful gems hidden in plain site!

Thai Corner

Where: The Centre, Salwa Road, Al Muntazah

Rating: 4.0 / 5

Extra small in space, extra large in flavour! With no space for dining in, this Mom-and-Pop gem in the middle of The Centre’s parking lot spreads its goodness through take-away and delivery. Foodies rave about the pad Thai and vegetable egg-rolls served by the all-Thai staff, making it one of the most beloved and authentic Thai restaurants around.

Ma7atet Masr

Where: Najma Street, Najma

Rating: 4.0 / 5

Named after the historic grand train station in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, Ma7atet Masr (pronounced ‘ma-ha-tet’) has yet to celebrate it’s one-year anniversary, but has already amassed a following for its authentic Alexandrian cuisine. Park on the streets of Doha, walk into a humble Alexandrian diner to devour their famous liver sandwiches and grilled meats.

Al Jamal

Where: Abdulla Bin Kaab Street, Fereej Bin Mahmoud

Rating: 4.1 / 5

This family-run restaurant makes sure no one gets bored of eating the same old thing everyday. The daily changing menu keeps their hungry fans on their toes and anxious for a favourite dish like haleem or mutton biryani to be served up. It’s so finger-licking good many will wait up to an hour for a taste of authentic, home-made Pakistani dishes before the pot goes dry.

Three Peppers

Where: Old Airport Road, Old Airport Area

Rating: 4.1 / 5

Just like a small pepper packs a big punch, this small place packs three big punches! Chef Mary’s take on authentic Chinese eats is probably the reason behind why the Old Airport area is always so jam-packed. This spicy gem fills up faster than you can say ‘Szechuan chicken please!’

Gokul Gujarati

Where: Ibn Mahmoud Street, Fereej Bin Mahmoud

Rating: 4.3 / 5

And topping the list is the place foodies have deemed houses the best thali experience in town. Space is limited, but once inside, you’re served by staff as if you’re a guest in their home. Go for the full dine-in experience, or select a few dishes to enjoy at home. The best part? This gem won’t even leave a scratch on your wallet!
